Places of Interest around our area

Stroud
This little place was once a wool town, and many of the mill buildings can still be seen along the canal. The railway took over the carriage of goods from the canal, and brick was brought in for building as well as stone, so the town is unusual in that it has a mix of stone and brick for houses.

As in many small towns, out of town shopping has taken its toll on Stroud, but about 6 years ago the Farmer's Market came into being. This was successful from the beginning, and from that came the 'Made in Stroud Shop', run by the craftspeople of the area. The empty shops have filled up, and altogether it is a quirky bustling place full of interesting characters.

It is built in the valley of the river Frome, from which other steep sided valleys rise up to the east, north and south, and to the west the land is flat onto the Severn Plain. The area is crisscrossed with wonderful footpaths which are largely deserted.

Other places of interest are Berkeley Castle, Slimbridge. Wildfowl and Wetlands trust, Gloucester with its Norman Cathedral, Cirencester with the Corinium museum, Cheltenham, a Geogian Spa town, and the lovely Cotswold Hills.

We also have easy access to Bath, Bristol, Oxford and the Forest of Dean.
